We classify according to both the nature of the document and the name that the Tribunal gave to them. They may address also other questions. For instance, an interim award can also refer to jurisdiction, counterclaims, preliminary Issues, etc.


  • Advisory opinion
    This type includes all the advisory opinions rendered by ICJ, PCIJ, ITLOS, and CAS.
  • Award (Interim)
    This type includes all interim awards (called “Interim” by the tribunal) in ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, and IUSCT (Interlocutory) cases, as well as in one Inter-State case (i.e. Italian Republic v. Republic of Cuba)..
  • Award (Partial)
    This type includes all partial awards (called “Partial” by the tribunal) in ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, Sports Arbitration, and IUSCT cases, as well as in Inter-State cases (i.e. Eritrea-Ethiopia Claims Commission).
  • Bifurcation
    This type includes all the decisions/procedural orders on bifurcation in ISDS and Commercial Arbitration cases.
  • Costs
    This type includes all ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, Sports Arbitration and IUSCT awards/decisions on costs.
  • Counterclaims
    This type includes all ISDS and IUSCT awards/decisions/orders on counterclaims as well as ICJ and ITLOS orders/judgments on counterclaims when the documents are entitled as such by the relevant tribunal or court.
  • ICSID Arbitration Rule 41(5)
    This type includes ICSID decisions on the ICSID Arbitration Rule 41(5).
  • Provisional/Interim Measures
    This type includes all ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, Sports Arbitration, and IUSCT decisions on provisional measures as well as Inter-State judgments/orders on provisional measures. This type includes the decisions on security for costs.
  • Judgment (Merits)
    This type includes all Inter-State (ICJ, PCIJ, ITLOS, PCA) judgments on merits.
  • Jurisdiction/Admissibility
    This type includes all ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, Sports Arbitration, IUSCT, and Inter-State decisions/judgments on jurisdiction. This type includes only separate decisions on the jurisdiction, usually when the proceeding was bifurcated. Attention: By clicking on “Jurisdiction” you will not find the “Final Award” where the question of jurisdiction was treated by the tribunal (i.e. Blusun v. Italy).
  • Decision (Liability)
    This type includes all ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, IUSCT, and Inter-State decisions/awards on liability and quantum. This type includes both separate decisions on liability and decisions on jurisdiction and liability.
  • National Annulment
    This type includes all the decisions/orders/judgments of national courts/tribunals related to an annulment of foreign arbitral awards.
  • National Decision (Other)
    This type includes all the decisions/orders/judgments of national courts/tribunals related to international arbitration cases.
  • National Enforcement
    This type includes all the decisions/orders/judgments of national courts/tribunals related to the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
  • Opinion
    This type includes all the Mixed Commissions commissioners’ opinions.
  • Place of Arbitration
    This type includes all decisions/procedural orders on the place of arbitration.
  • Preliminary issues
    This type includes all ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, IUSCT, Inter-State, Mixed Commissions decisions on preliminary issues that don’t fall into Bifurcation and Jurisdiction decisions
  • Stay of Enforcement
    This type includes all ICSID decisions on the Stay of Enforcement.
  • Stay of Execution
    This type includes all ICSID decisions on the Stay of Execution.
  • Supplementary
    This type includes all ISDS, Commercial Arbitration, and IUSCT supplementary decisions (i.e. Decision on Rectification, Reconsideration, etc.). This type also includes supplementary decisions of the Dispute Settlement Body and Appellate Body of WTO (i.e. Corrigendum).
